Pardon my ignorance!

I just got a urethane dash pad from Dashes Direct for my '85 C30. It's black. My interior is blue. I was planning on dyeing it, but the new dash had a slip of paper with a warning "Do not try to dye/paint this dash!" They say it won't adhere. Anybody tried it anyway? I'm inclined to leave it black, but I'm not real happy about it.

Another thing: Almost all of the plastic studs snapped off of the trim panel. I couldn't get the speed nuts to budge, but the slightest pressure would snap the studs off. Now I'm left trying to figure out how to attach it to the new dash pad. I'm thinking double-sided adhesive tape? I suppose I could buy a new trim piece, but I'm wondering if most of the replacement stuff available is junk.

All help and opinions appreciated!
