NOS Trim Search Ends; Kind of.
Over the weekend I was cruising the net for whatever I could find for my 79 GMC rebuild. Well, came across an ad for some “Chevy Trim.” I called the guy and asked what year trim he had. He told me had trim for a 73-80 GM pickup. He said he had purchased the items back in the early eighties but never put it on the truck he rebuilt (said the paint was too nice to be sticking trim on it). He said he had a few pieces but didn’t know what exactly was in the box. Well, I go over to his house, which was ten minutes away, introduced myself, and off to the basement we go. To my amazement, the wonderful gentleman had a box full of NOS side trim, still in the wrappers, still sealed, with clips, every piece needed for a LWB, to include the tailgate pieces. I could hardly catch my breath, literally. I paid about $100 less than what he purchased the stuff for new I think I found a buddy-for-life.
OK, the down side: My original truck is a LWB. However, I’ve picked up a near perfect short bed and a rolling SWB chassis in the last two years and was planning on building a SWB, so a few pieces will not fit. Or, do I go back to my original layout and continue to build the LWB? What do you guys think? Will I get lucky enough to find NOS bed side trim for the SWB???? I guess I have a few pieces for bargaining someday??? The gentlemen also had two original, never used, GM replacement doors for sale too. Wants a pretty penny though.
