K&N filter

I finally put on the K&N filter the guy I knew gave me last fall. He said that it was for a 350 and that he wasn't going to use it anymore. I went to NAPA today and got the recharger kit, and cleaned it all up and put the new oil on it. He also gave me a chrome air cleaner assembly. What should I do with the small hose that runs to the carburetor and the exhaust pipe that runs to the damper assembly that is suppose to be for cold starts? I have these two things currently disconnected and haven't seen any drop in performance but that is sience this afternoon and it was a warm day.

What have you all done and/or recommend?
