Cab Swap

i've been looking for a 73-75 cab to replace the cab on my 79. for two reasons, there are two large rust holes on the cowl just below the windshield, and i really want my truck to be smog exempt. and the rust holes are going to cost close to a grand to repair...
so it's been recommended to me that i should swap cabs and kill two birds with one stone, as i would re-register the truck as a 73, 74, or 75 making it smog exempt in california
i found a truck on craigslist that i'm going to look into, if it's rust free then the cab may be a candidate.

anyway, i know it wouldn't be a weekend project, but i know there are a ton of knowledgeable minds on here that could give me some advice on how best to go about this swap
