We always put the tire up in the bed where it can stay clean, plus it allows some more room for my hidden trailer hitch....(did I mention I have a hidden trailer hitch on my truck?). You can see the bracket in this picture: I even retrofit a carrier into my stepside, even though it was not available as a production option (you might recall side mounted spares on stepsides, mounted on the outside of the fender): K
