AD vin / SERIAL - engine #'s

I just noticed that the title on my 1950 GMC 250 has the 228 engine number for a ID number B228******* . The only problem is that the 228 was replaced by a 235 chevy years ago. This is going to be a problem when I go to register it in Oregon. Is that number located any place on the frame ? Why would they use that number and not the one on the cab door frame ?
You would think that someone would have figured out at the DMV that a motor would one day need to be replaced !
