Skip White Distributor

A friend of mine and I both purchased the Skip White HEI distributors for Chevy small blocks. I noticed when installing mine, it is about 1/16- 3/32" from seating all the way down on top of the intake manifold. My friend had the same problem. Mine is not running yet but he did get his up and running and noticed that the teeth started to get ground up after about 20 minutes of running it. He determined the "spade" portion in the shaft was too long and that prevented the whole unit from dropping in all the way. He pulled his and put another HEI in and no problem. In examining the second distributor, we noticed the spade was about a 1/4" shorter than the Skip White unit. Has anyone else had this problem with Skip White HEI distributors and is there a fix for it? Are they defective? Thanks.
