after you have the valves springs installed and the rockers...turn the engine over to max valve compression..take a feeler gauge(.060) I believe...and slide it between each ring of the coils of the spring..towards the bottom of the spring will be the tightest..and Jhickson is right..if your springs are installed at 1.650" and the cam has.500 lift..you have .150 left over..more than the .060
