69 power steering conversion ???
I was wanting to get some input from you all on my conversion. Ive been working on adding p/s to my truck. I got the box/pump/hoses from an 87 pu. Ive got the box in and I thought I was going to have to use a 69 p/s pitman arm but the 87 one fits. It doesn't have a hole for the castle nut and cotter pin. Is this going to be a problem or can I just tighten it up. I had to use the nut off of my manual box because the 87 nut would not go on without spinning the pitman arm shaft. Im not going to use the pump. I think the later style pump needs bracket that tie onto the exhaust manifold and I think my short water pump would cause a problem finding brackets. Anybody using a late model pump? What kind of brackets are you using? I met a guy at the parts store the other day and he had a 67 or 68 C-10 and he let me see his p/s setup. It looked like the original bracket and pump. I got on ebay and bought this bracket. I think it's the same one. The ebay seller advertised it as being used on several pre 71 Chevy cars and trucks. Is this the right one for my truck? If I use a 69 pump what type of pulley should I use? My crank and water pump pullies have 2 grooves.
