83 silverado shorty for $1900

So I'm looking at trucks from 63-87. Not looking for a perfect truck, just a good truck. This is what I found local to me. It runs good, most of the typical rust, but surprisingly clean for it's age. No cab support rust, no rust around wheel wells, Doors are great shape, needs passenger fender liner. Here are a couple of pics.
There is one thing that bugs me though. It has i assume a replacement motor, looks like a GM crate. Well it has no dip stick for the oil. I got to check the oil. I have never had a GM crate before, I think there are provisions on both sides of the block. What would be involved to get a dip stick on it? Looks like a manifold may have to be removed if I put it on the drivers side. Anybody install a dipstick with the motor installed and all hooked up?
