Transmission Filter Change

Ok, so i changed the engine oil, but i had no idea when the last tranmission oil change was. I always change the engine and tranny oils with in the first month of ownership. I looked under the truck and looked pretty easy, but about 4 bolts were covered by the transmission crossmember mouunt(unsure about the correct name for this) Long story short i made some modifications to the mount , so i can easyly get to them next time.

other than taking this brackect off, what were my other options? would like to hear what other have done.

this is my 87 silverado long bed 700r4
