New Rear Shocks - nothing is simple

<begin rant>
I'm slowly getting to some of my todo list and tonight I put new rear shocks on my 79 Silverado. From what I can tell, the old shock were originals since the upper shock mounts were part of the shocks. I did the drivers side without much trouble and then moved to the passenger side. Removed the old shock, mounted the new upper shock mount then the fun began. I couldn't get the shock on the upper mount. My workspace is marginal at best so crawling under the truck doesn't leave much room to work. Finally pulled the shock and upper mount back out and looked at it under better light. The shock had an inside metal bushing that was smaller than the mount bolt. The only upside was that I had another vehicle available and the parts store was still open. Turns out the wrong shock was packaged in the box. Got the job finished but why does everything have to be a hassle.
<end rant>

There - I feel better now.
