Removing the steering column

Hey guys, I need to know how to remove my whole steering column, its broken and I need to go buy a new one from the wreckers. That silver peice that the torx bolts are attached to is rotating freely even with the bolts securly tightened into the peice that has the threads at the back... I assume that when my father wrenched on the truck's wheel while it was jammed before we stuck it on the trailer he wrecked whatever it is that the torx bolts are attached to... If anyone has a tutorial that I could print off and take to the wreckers with me tonight, I would really appreciate it, the column and a burnt out fuse are all that are holding me back from getting a mechanic from saying that my vehicle is mechanically safe to be driven, which is the only thing that is keeping me from getting it insured, and drivable.
