How to restore rims

I just found 2 great rims at a local salvage yard. I want to sand them down, primer them then paint. Any suggestions on steps to do this? I am looking for other opinions to see if what I want to do would be the right way to do this.
Also while at the salvage yard I FINALLY found a great set of manual doors for my 86 silverado!!!! These doors are perfect. Very littler rust. Passenger door window was shattered at some point but man I am glad the search is over. I am also wanting to sand these doors down and primer them. I don't have a paint job in the near future but want to get these doors primered and put them on b4 my others just rust off!!
Thanks for any input!!!
