Torque Converter Noise

I installed an aftermarket converter a few months ago. At speeds above 40 mphs, the converter starts to make a rattling noise. A friend of mine was told that sometimes aftermarket converters have to be shimmed into the transmission . He said the converter should have about 1/8 inch of travel.

I have had my motor in and out several times with the stock converter. I did not have to shim the stock converter.

Has anyone else heard of this?
