Brake Line Tubing Size?

I need to run my brake lines now. I am planning on matching the rear lines to what was existing, 3/16" to new MC with proportioning valve. My question is can I run 3/16" lines to the new front disc brakes from proportioning valve?
I read where possibly it should be 1/4" to new discs.
Anybody have first hand experience with this. Thanks.
