4wd Shock Questions

I have a few questions about shocks that I could not answer from searching the forums...

How can you test a shock off of the vehicle? (should it fully extend after I compress it by hand?)

Need opinions...What are the best shocks for a lifted 4wd? (I currently have the rough country shocks that came with my lift kit and personally dont think they are all that great, but this is the only 4wd I've had so I dont know how other brands compare)

Do the quad shock setups for the 4wd square bodies make that much of a difference over the standard 2 front shock setup?
