Re: Cross Country Trip....
Wow, I love this thread!
Summer 2000 I drove my 1965 from Amarillo, Tx to the San Francisco Bay Area(Fairfield, Vacaville, Suisun), I think it was 1700 miles or so. I had my girlfriend give me a ride to Texas, and she followed me back in her Toyota. I had 20 gallons of extra gas in cans just in case, water, oil, everything, and a old 1971 Suzuki TS185 that was my dad's. We went to a rest stop somewhere on I-40 around Flagstaff and there was a sign at the bathroom someone made, guy selling stuff (tools etc.) for gas money. The guy had lost his wallet and was out of gas in a old motorhome, and had a black dog like yours, it was hot and the dog was panting, I was gonna see what he had for sale, but then I felt bad for him and the dog being stranded. I gave him 10 gallons of my gas and he was very thankful, the next day we passed him on I-40 going west, he waved and honked and had a big smile. He was going to Idaho. Of course it could have been a scam, but I believed he was truly stranded, and it felt good to help someone in need. I hope you and your dog are ok, now that I have my truck back on the road, maybe we can have a 60-66 truck meet somewhere! |
