cab & chassis ?s

I just went back 18 pages and cant find the thread. While discussing why someones 8' bed was too short for their reg cab pickup, someone stated that reg cab C&Cs are several inches longer than a reg cab pickup, while crewcab C&Cs share the same length as a crewcab pickup. My local GM guru yesterday told me this is not correct, he said there is a 2 inch difference, (on the crewcabs) not sure if he meant longer or shorter, but he said you can get away with it, but the wheels wont be centered in the wheelwell and/or the bed to cab gap wont be perfect. He also said the frames are noticeably thicker.

Well, my wheels appear to be perfectly centered with a good bed gap. And the frame doesn't feel particularly thick. So if he what he says is true, then my truck is a pickup and not a cab & chassis. Which just seems wierd because from what I know of the history was that the truck spent the first ten years of it's life as a wrecker belonging to a dealership (I remember when dealers and garages did their own towing). So it seems odd that they would have taken a new pickup and installed a wrecker body on it, then swapped in a narrow rear axle, rather than just getting a new C&C. So, when new my truck was probably a dually pickup, unless it was an SRW and they changed the front to use the same wheels.

I guess it doesn't make any difference, except I'll have to change my sig.
