Installing bed wood, crossmembers ?
We are in the process (long process since I screwed up the finish on the wood twice) We have the bed off the truck and have been going back and forth between the crossmembers on the truck frame and the crossmembers on the bed. We noticed that it looks like there are more than one set of holes where the carriage bolts could go through the wood and at the same time thru the crossmembers and through the frame. I decided to directly bolt the crossmembers to the frame mounts where possible and then put the carriage bolts through the crossmember in the other hole (the one that is used if different width wood is used. In this way the bolts will be steel to steel and not wood steel steel. I thought this would be stronger and keep the wood from seeing so much pressure. Did I make myself clear ? or as clear as mud ?
bolting the crossmember to the frame bracket: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...004359_Kvx8TPp If you will go thru the pictures one at a time the comments show what we are trying to accomplish. |
