Ever had one of those annoying squeaks you couldn't find?

OK, it was more of a high pitched squeal - just slightly less annoying than the old fingernails on a chalkboard sound. You know the sound - the one that grabs your spine and shakes it hard?

I have had this since owning the truck for the last year. It only happens when going around corners, and only stopped if you went really slow in the corner. It was loud, annoying, and embarrassing.

I did the usual - replaced and tensioned the belts (repeatedly), lubed all suspension components, lubed anything I could think of that could possibly be attributed to the dreaded sound, made sure all fasteners were tight, etc., Even replaced the power steering pump, thinking one of the internal components were worn out and letting a valve or spring inside (thinking pressure relief) vibrate . Nada.

Finally, when fixing a grounded sending unit in the fuel tank, I spied one of those conical shaped springs that was put in the filler neck to stop people from siphoning . It was lying in the bottom of the tank. I just shrugged it off originally and put the sending unit back. The more I thought about it, I wondered if it could be the culprit.

I finally pulled the sender again and fished it out. Problem solved.

Just one of those weird things that I didn't even think about. Just lucky that it was in plain view when I pulled the sender (it was out of sight when I fished for it today). It stretched out when I pulled it, but was about 6" long and 2" round originally.
