Lowering Block Material?

Last year, I had a previous neighbor make me a set of lowering blocks since he had access to some scrap steel and a machine to make them at his job. They are just 1" blocks, but they are crazy heavy. I don't really know anything about different types of metals, but I'm guessing they are just steel due to the weight.

I know the 2" blocks I have currently aren't even close to this heavy, so I was wondering if it's a bad idea to use these?
