Today is My 40th Anniversary with My Truck

Well, today is the 40th anniversary of the day I took possession of my 72 Chevy 4 x 4 pickup. Needless to say, me and the old boy have been through a lot together. I got it when I was 17, during the summer before my senior year in high school. (I am now 57 and retired.) I remember the first day of school my senior year, driving into my high school parking lot in my new truck wearing my new block jacket! Life just doesn’t get any better than that! I was Johnny Potatoes!

My dad actually bought the truck for me but I paid him back over the next few years, turning over to him every meager paycheck I made. The truck cost all of $4,200! I wish I could go back in time and buy a few of them!

I have worked my truck very, very hard. During high school and college I cut and sold firewood with it. I remember many times pulling out of some deep hole with a load of oak stacked up to the top of the cab. I would put the transfer case into four low and crawl out. Over the years I did a lot of hunting out of my truck. It has many four wheel drive miles and has hauled over 100 deer for happy hunters!

I have so many good memories of my truck! I literally grew up in it. To me it is hard to believe that this much time has passed. My truck is now retired and I use it for just driving around or making a trip to the lumber yard. I still hunt, but I now have a quad and no longer have to beat up my truck.

I will never sell my truck! I am in the midst of installing a hydroboost break system, a new steering box, and original bucket seats. Hopefully I will be driving it for many years to come!
