1984 K20 Rear Brake Question

First time posting here.

I recently bought a 1984 K20 Pickup and am in the process of bringing it up to par to pass state inspection. Only thing I have left to do is install a new parking brake cable.

I ordered all necessary parts from LMC and started the replacement process.

Me and dad are working on it right now and got the front cable changed out without a hitch. We got to the rear and realized we had to take off the rear drums in order to access and change out the rear parking brake cables on both sides.

We got everything out and the rear drums are supposed to "slip off easily" when all of the assembly pieces are removed. We cannot get the rear drums off. We have tried everything we can and the brake assembly is holding everything up and will not allow us to get the drum off. I know the thing is old but I would think there is some trick to it that we don't know.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Thanks in advance for taking a look.
