Flywheel swap question
I did some searching last night and saw a few conflicting opinions on this, so I thought I'd poll for some direct input.
I have to swap the flywheel on the 383 in my new 72 K20 (TH350 / NP205). The previous owner has replaced it, but used a 350 flywheel, so obviously that's no bueno. What is the quickest, down and dirty way to get in, swap in the new 400 flywheel, and get out? If I had a shop, I'd go all out and just use this as a reason to pull the engine and do some cleanup work, but this'll have to be a weekend driveway job. So, should I get a lift and try to move the engine far enough forward to get the job done, or drop the tranny and transfer case? I'm leaning toward moving the engine just because I know what a b**** dealing with that transfer case can be. On the other hand, I just did that on a Jimmy back in January, so at least I'm pretty familiar with the process! Thoughts???
