I have an 86 k30 7.4L. I took her through a mud pit and she seems to be reacting poorly. Issues started when I blew the fusible link going to the starter. The starter was also fried. I replaced both the starter and fusible link and all was well.
Well, when i was out delivering firewood... the truck RANDOMLY died on me. When I say died, I mean the truck just turned off with no warning. The truck showed no signs of running poorly. So, I jump out to try to diagnose the issue. The primaries are receiving fuel, so I think that there's no spark. The truck cranks fine, gets fuel, but won't start. About ten minutes goes by of me intermittenly trying to start the truck, and it fires and runs great the rest of the day. Solely for maintenance purposes, I replaced an old worn out rochester with a rebuilt quadrajet from jegs. Then I replaced the distributor, as I was under the impression that the ignition control moduel, or pickup coil was starting to go out... causing my intermitten dieing issue. HOWEVER, even after replacing the distributor the truck has turned itself off directly after a backfire, with no previous signs of running poorly. Allow 10-20 minutes of time to pass and the truck fires and doesn't miss a beat for weeks to come... The only other symptom I can offer is that when the truck dies or starts to experience these intermitten issues... when you crank the motor over, the batteries act as if they are low and the motor turns over slowly. Both batteries have been tested and both have sufficient cold cranking amps and were approved by the local mechanic under load and not under load. The ignition switch has also been replaced, so what in the HECK is it guys???
