I've never seen this on an '89 before. Very unusual, but nothing surprises me on these two piece designs anymore.

Some people do make them work, whether they are using a lot of weatherstrip adhesive or urethane...I'm not sure. The bottom line is that most people encounter problems, wind noise, leakage etc. Get the correct ones. Your truck, time & sanity are worth it!
