turn signal question?

Hello all, I have been having issues with the driver side front turn signal not wanting to flash at all. I noticed that the side marker light wires were cut rite behind the socket so I bought a new socket and also the turn signal socket that is in the bumper. I havent gotten a chance to put the bumper socket in yet but did put the side marker socket on and when i turn the lights on the side marker lights up like it suppose to, but the turn singal inside the cab stays dimly lit. Is this normal until i replace the turn singal socket to or could i have a crossed wire some where? Also not sure if Im wiring the colors up correctly the replacment that i bought has one brown and black wire and the stock was blue and brown.
