Realistic value on project

I've always built modern 4x4 vehicles as my projects but I'm at the point where I really want to do a nice older truck. My friends dad might be finally putting his 1970 cst shortbox up for sale but I cant decide what its worth. I see them on ebay with huge variations in prices so I'm just kinda lookin for a ball park idea here. Like i said 1970 cst shortbox 2wd, not been redone, has cab corners and rockers cut out with new parts in boxes but not installed, has a diff 350, I dont know the options that well as I havnt seen it in many years. Last time I saw it driven was over 15yrs ago, its been sitting in storage for ever. But it wasnt a totally rusted out heep by any means. I dont think it runs and is in a lot of pieces but generally everything is there i'm told. He doesnt wanna budge off 3500 if he sells it. Is that fair? Seems high to me just curious. thanks
