Steering Column Question

I bought a late 70's/early 80's tilt for my '75 Sierra and had it shipped to me. When I unpacked it, I saw that the splined steering shaft had collapsed, presumably during shipping since the box was all jacked up. The rest of the column appears to be fine...

Here's the question: Can this shaft be pulled out? Or did Fed Ex (and the seller's packing) cost me $125? Thanks!
