Which Gear Oil???

Hey guys....I just swapped a GM 14 bolt FF 8 lug and a GM 10 bolt front into my 71 Burb, and I popped the covers off and cleaned out all old oil with brake cleaner and sealed them back up. I am pretty sure the axles call for some 80/90 gl5 gear oil....but I was wondering if anybody can tell me the pros and cons to maybe going to a synthetic oil like a 75/90 or similar??? Or if that is even recommended??? Any suggestions on brands etc. Thanks in advance.
