Would you powder coat your core support?
I found a good one a while back and finally got around to having it sand blasted.
  I can get it powder coated for next to nothing at my BIL's shop, so I'm really thinking of having it done. It probably needs a little fine-tuning on the sand blasting end of it, but I only had to pay $10 to get it to where it is now.
