69 Front Axle Length...
Hey everyone. I am hoping for some insight here.
While wheeling a few week back my left front u-joint broke, which in turn destroyed the inner and outer axle shafts on the driver's side. I have the truck torn down, but I am getting conflicting answers as to the correct replacement axle length. There is hardly anything left of the yokes on the shafts so measuring them is not easy. I can't seem to find a local shop here in KC that is up on these old Dana 44s. I am not in the position to toss in a set of Dana 60's either... $$$$ I called Yukon and they said I could just cut down the inner shaft if it was too long...(not sure what I would do that with) But there is a possibility of the outer stub shaft being wrong too. The information I have states that early Blazers (69.5 and down) have a shorter axle shaft. Well, if they have a shorter axle shaft, what besides the shaft is actually shorter on the housing? Is it a shorter axle tube? A different knuckle ? A different carrier ? What is it I have to change to get the longer, later version of this axle to fit ? Any detailed info on this is appreciated, I just want to get it back on the road... Summer is slipping by !! Man these parts are expensive !! Whammybar66 |
