Engine stamp pad help?

V1022TDR - Flint, October 22, 1972, 350, 175 HP, Auto trans, 4 barrel

Does the 1972 designation mean the engine was built in 1972 or that it belonged to a 1972 year model vehicle? Do we know if it is a 4 bolt? It seems that this may be a correct engine for my 1972 Blazer. But it has no VIN derivative on the pad. Did all trucks have VIN's on the pad? What possibilities are there for this one not having one?
