My '67 Stepside build

I've been lurking for a long time, posting a few questions now and then. I'm officially starting my journey to rebuild my '67 step side. I had been trying to buy this old truck from a dear old bluegrass pickin' buddy of mine. It was his fathers truck when new and became his when his father passed. He drove it until '87 when he got a new Chevy 4x4. At that time it was parked in the field behind his house. The '67 is a 4x4 Shorty stepside that came with AC, brakes and steering, it's got a 292 4 speed. My old friend always told me he was gonna fix it up when he got old....well he is just past 80 now and sadly has started showing signs of dementia. I heard about a year ago that his son was making some calls to find out what the truck was worth so I assumed that meant he was ready to sell. Long story short, I bought the truck and have set on it for the last year due to several family medical issues consuming all of my time. After some input from some of the forum members here, a carb rebuild, a distributor cap, points, plugs.. i got it started...after the victory dance i am starting to evaluate where i'm at with her. amazing..absolutely no smoke when running, the power steering works great, and i even put it in 4 wheel drive and it is working. There are no brakes whatsoever, but i took a drive today around my field. so over the next while, I will be attempting to make the 'ol girl breathe again. I want to offer thanks for any of you in advance that will be answering my questions that are sure to come. My first inclination is to get it mechanically sound and drive it with the rust and funky ol patina. Once mechanically sound, i'll decide whether to restore the body or just drive it in all of it's present glory.
