I will be building a 1998 chevy extended cab soon as I buy it off my friend. I have a 1977 1500 truck with a 12 bolt rear in it. I really want to keep it all chevy so I am thinking about using the 77 rear in my 98. Is the 77 narrower than the 98 and does anybody know what to expect when I open up the 77 rear to rebuild it as to what gears are in it or is there a posi in it too. Where should I look for someone to rebuild this 77 diff for my newer truck. I am hoping it is narrower so I can put on bigger meats on the back. Wider and its just not going to happen. Can anyone help with some info !!!Thanks--I dont happen to have the 77 here yet to measure !!! or the 98 !!!
