Post way ot/alternator?

does anyone know which type alternator puts out high voltage with minimal rpms.im thinking the newer style has to be spinning pretty good to put out high voltage. does the old style external regulated work like this. this is for a windmill charging system.any advice is greatly appreciated thanks
