A smaller cam with decent lift and a good bit of overlap would be best if you felt like you needed to do it. If you wanted to drop a little coin some small chamber heads, improved intake, and then a cam/valvetrain upgrade would result in a nice combo and the short block should be solid but for that kind of money it may be better to find a 350 core and build an entire engine that is all matched up pistons/heads/valvetrain etc.

Good points. Kinda what I figured. Might still go for it just to freshen the truck up. Might pursue more hp down the road.
