it has to start somewhere / AD s10 frame question

As you might have guessed, this is my first frame swap. I feel I have learned a lot already by just reading viewing the photos. I can't wait to be as far along as some of you guys in this project. I found a rust free 52/ three window Chevy on the original frame. No engine , trans , or rear worth mentioning. Then I found a 2002 s10 extreme with the 4.3 and 4 speed auto.
I have the frame of the s10 down to bare bones and I come to my question. The extended cab frame I have is, I think, 124" if I'm not mistaken, and the 52 AD is a 116" wheelbase. What I have read here is a lot of people that cut their frames down, cut them down to 117". I'm getting ready to cut my frame down and I need advice on what wheel base to end up with. The original 116" or put it to 117" like a s10 single cab long bed. I guess I'm wondering why it seems so many frame shorting seem to be modified to 117" and not 116" Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot for all your help so far. Sid.
