1958 chevy fleetside ,TRANSMISSION COLOR

Hi I have an original 1958 anniversary gold, Apache Fleetside custom cab short box,with the original numbers matching V-8 & standard transmission. In the process of restoring & trying to keep this truck as original as possible!!
Still has the original paint & has never been resprayed & straight as a bullet with only just a little surface rust. The fresh rebuilt engine & bell housing are painted the original dark gray.
Does anyone know what the original color of the transmission was painted?? Looks like it may have been black??? Cant seem to find any info about the 3 spd standard transmission. Any info or comments would be greatly appreciated!!
