Power steering box problems

Recently ive pulled my power steering box from the frame and cleaned it out. I could not believe how much black sludge came out of that thing. In the process of installing it, I noticed when i turn the wheel to the left, it goes about half way. when i turn the wheel to the right, it makes the full turn. I have about 4inches of travel in the steering wheel. This is a very uncomfortable ride to drive down the street. Did i mount the pitman arm in the wrong position (according to a clock) ? Suggestions would really help me out !
