Post Steering wheel ID question

Hey guys--I'd always thought the steering wheel in my 72 was stock, but people on the board told me there were only two steering wheels available--the small round-button ones in 67 and 68 (I think), then the flat 4-sided ones from 69 on up. Just wanted to double-check this fact.
Mine has the correct wheel and crosspieces, but the button is huge, round and black, and takes up the whole center section. Wish I could get a pic, but was wondering if maybe someone just switched the button?!?!?!??! It's been bugging me for a while, thanks
