I'm not sure there is actually any performance advantage of wasted spark, it really has to do with having half as many trigger events to keep track of. You basically fire the plug based on the crank trigger alone. My 6 will have that initially when I'm running carbs, mostly because it's just simpler to pull off with an engine that never had a distributor and my options are limited for a simple ignition only crank trigger based ignition that will work with a 6. I'll be using one that is typically used with a Porsche flat 6. The "wasted spark" happens during the exhaust stroke when there is no fuel to burn and the exhaust valve is open so there isn't any real way to gain anything from it.
