Sealing Wheel Tubs?

I removed the wheel tubs off my 66 to get the bed ready for new wood, etc and I was NOT surprised to see rust in between where the tubs 'mate' up to the bed sides. I can imagine there is plenty of opportunity for water/moisture to accumulate in that crevice and create rust/damage.

Has anyone tried any type of sealant in that area with much success? The current thread on "Best Seam Sealer" got me thinking that maybe this would be an option?
