Steering column install question

I'm trying to install my steering column and I want to make sure I'm doing it right. Is the bracket with 2 bolts that attaches to the brake peddle assembly the only thing that holds the column? I made sure the slot indention on the column aligned with the nipple and tightened down the bracket. A couple things look off. One is the shift indicator on the column is not perfectly straight and two the column looks a little high as it goes through the firewall so it pushing up on the gasket a bit. Please let know what you guys think. Thanks
