3" Lowering springs?

Forum members I have recently installed a set of ground force 3" lowering springs. The truck really looks good with them on. The issues is that it seemed to have dropped the truck more than 3". Why is that? I measured before I installed them and I had gap of 4.5" from the tire to the edge of the fender. The tire is currently sitting inside the fender by .5". I was trying to get the truck fenders right above the tire. I had figured that I was going to have to cut these springs to make that happen, but really surprised me when it dropped 5" with 3" lowering springs. Any thoughts? Maybe a will re order a set 2..5" lowering springs. That should out me where I needed to be. Just afraid that 2.5" will raise me up more that .5", since my truck dropped 5" with 3" lowering springs.
