Re-directing the steering column ???

Has anybody actually changed the direction or angle of attack on the 55-59 steering column from its stock location ? ....

Mine is a late style Camaro front clip with the steering box ahead of the K member ???? results? drawbacks? issues?

Mine has the SAG 800 power steering box and its mounted on the inside of the frame rail. I would like the steering column to come out higher out of the firewall to get the shaft away from the header area. I havenet taken any measurement or angle yet but wondered if anybody else has done this at all?
