In Arizona if you don't have title (you, him, or his brother) none of you own the truck.
Somebody does, just not you guys.
Whomever was the last registered owner owns it.
You can go bonded title, or apply as if you are a tow company (legal), but every scenario has it's drawbacks and someone could come claim their long lost truck. Probably not, but I would not put any more money into it till you get a title. You could be fixing up a truck for somebody else.
