What internally turns off the hazard switch?

I just replaced my turn signal switch and everything works perfectly. But when I function my hazard knob and turn the flashers on, I am not able to turn them off by just pulling the switch back out. I took the steering wheel back off and see there is a little tab inside the switch that must be pushed towards the out side of the column to turn the switch back off. My question is once I put the wheel back on, how is this tab supposed to be functioned to be turned back off?

Here is a picture of the said tab (flat, black tab on the bottom) that has to be pressed to turn the flashers back off.
