Wheel backspace to tie rod distance

I have a 1991 GMC Jimmy Full Size 4x4. I have a set of old aluminum modular wheels (15x8 3.50 back space) that I am replacing with a set of Pro Comp Series 51 15x8/6x5.5 with 3.75 back space. Bought the new wheels and took them up to a tire place to put them on for me. They said that they would not fit. To close to the tie rod. How much space do you need between the tie rod and the rim? The old aluminum rims fit fine. Would my new rims fit? Pro Comp said they would fit.

Oh, and my Jimmy has no lift. Stock height. Has anyone else ever experienced this situation?
